Smokey Bean Soup & Homemade Bread

Ingredients
  1. *Bean Soup Ingredients*
  2. 1/2 kg speckled beans
  3. 3 x Bay leaves
  4. 3 x Cloves Garlic
  5. 2 x Cups vegetable stock
  6. *Gravy for Soup Ingredients*
  7. ½ Cup Oil
  8. 1 x Large Onion
  9. 1 x Sachet of Tomato Paste
  10. 1 x Tablespoon Smoked Paprika
  11. 3 x Tablespoons Cake Flour
  12. *Bread Ingredients*
  13. Risen yeast mixture (wet ingredients)
  14. 1 (10g) sachet of yeast
  15. 1 x cup of warm water
  16. 1 x teaspoon of sugar
  17. Flour Mixture (Dry Ingredients)
  18. 7 x cups flour
  19. 1 x tablespoon of salt
  20. 2 ½ cups water
Bean Soup Directions
  1. Soak beans overnight in water
  2. Rinse beans
  3. Add all ingredients together with 3L water
  4. Bring to boil
  5. Add the gravy to soup mixture
  6. Simmer until beans are soft (2-2½ hours)
  7. Add one teaspoon of salt
  8. Add extra water as needed
Gravy Directions
  1. Heat oil until hot, add chopped onions and stir until caramelized
  2. Add 3 x tablespoons cake flour and let it brown slightly
  3. Add sachet of tomato paste, mix thoroughly
  4. When all combined and sizzling, add 1 x heaped tablespoon smoked paprika
Homemade Bread Directions
  1. Combine all wet and dry ingredients together
  2. First add risen yeast to flour mix and start kneading the dough and add remaing water while kneading
  3. Knead for about 10 minutes until you get a medium mixture
  4. Dough is ready when it starts separating from bowl
  5. Cover bowl with cling wrap until it doubles in size (approximately 1 hour)
  6. The mixture will make 2 loaves of bread.
